When ambitious would-be editor Lucy Stanbridge (Aubrey Plaza) inherits her father’s boutique publishing house, she nearly sinks the business by publishing Young Adult titles that receive bad reviews and fail to sell. When she finds out that Harris Shaw (Michael Caine), a reclusive, crusty, alcoholic author who originally put the company on the map owes the publishing house a book Harris, she contacts him him, hoping he can save her and the company from going under. Her timing is perfect.
Harris owes money and he happens to have just written a new book, although he’s less than pleased with the finished product. Lucy, however, is thrilled — that is, until she finds out that Harris’s contract stipulates his work can never be edited. And this book needs help. However, in exchange for his work not being touched, he has to commit to a publishing tour in order to promote the book. And so, the book tour from hell is launched.
