It's finally happened, George Clooney is a father! His wife, international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, gave birth to twins -- a boy named Alexander and a girl named Ella -- yesterday morning.
A statement released by the couple reads: "...Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days."
It was confirmed back in February that George, 56, and Amal, 39, were expecting and it has been an exciting time for the couple, with George saying in an interview: "We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure."
The couple were married in September 2014 in a small but star-studded ceremony in Venice. It was a surprise to many as George was notoriously known for not being a fan of marriage, but his tune certainly changed after meeting his accomplished and beautiful wife, telling PEOPLE in an interview shortly after the wedding that being married "feels pretty damn great."
The now proud parents weren't the only ones excited about the pregnancy. Long-time friend and actor Matt Damon told Entertainment Tonight Canada that he nearly teared up when George told him they were expecting: "I was working with him last fall and he pulled me aside on set and I mean, I almost started crying. I was so happy for him."
