Daisy McCrackin, seen at left in the 2002 film Halloween: Resurrection, and actor Joey Capone, who played Jimmy in the 2014 film Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, were at her Los Angeles home when two assailants grabbed them, pistol-whipped Capone with a semi-automatic firearm, put black hoods over their heads and dragged them to a waiting car, leaving a trail of blood behind.
Keith Andre Stewart and Johntae Jones have been apprehended and charged with the crime, during which Capone was driven to Jones' house in Compton, where the actor was stripped naked, beaten, punched, kicked, and forced to remain in a bathtub for 30 hours without food.
A third defendant, Amber Neal, who was arrested on Monday, took McCrackin’s 2011 red Lexus and along with Jones, forced the actress to withdraw cash from a number of Bank of America locations, as well as forcing her to write a check for $10,000 in exchange for Capone’s release.
They drove McCrackin back to her home the next day, where she managed to escape and alert the authorities.
The three suspects are being held on a number of charges, including kidnapping, assault with a firearm, grand theft, conspiracy and possession for sale of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. Neal and Jones are also charged with perjury after they told police the Lexus was "a gift" from McCrackin.
Neal's arrest by the LAPD on June 2, 2018, which took place on a busy street, was filmed by a passerby, who was outraged that police drew guns on an unarmed woman. The Twitter user, named @x__ricardo, posted the video, which went viral. In response, the LAPD tweeted, "We are aware this video has raised concerns from the community. Although we are limited in what info we can release, we can confirm this individual was arrested on a felony kidnapping warrant & taken into custody without a use-of-force. She is being held on 1 million dollars bail."
It's not clear why it took over a year for the alleged criminals to be arrested for the kidnapping, which occured in May 2017.
According to the New York Post, Jones is also being held on $1 million bail, while Stewart, who is allegedly responsible for torturing Capone, is being held on $2 million bail. Each of the three suspects potentially face lifetime prison sentences if convicted. ~Alexandra Heilbron
