Kevin Spacey will be returning to the big screen next month despite the sexual misconduct allegations that have come out against him.
The newly released trailer for the crime-drama Billionaire Boys Club reveals Spacey’s part in the film has not been cut and he is even billed as a leading actor, after co-star Ansel Elgort. In the trailer, Spacey is introduced as “Academy Award-winner Kevin Spacey.”
The film, which is being distributed by Vertical Entertainment in the U.S., features Spacey as real-life con artist Ron Levin. His co-stars include Taron Egerton, Emma Roberts, and Suki Waterhouse in a story about a get-rich-quick scheme that targeted the families of Harvard students in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It completed filming in January 2016.
In October of last year, the 58-year-old disgraced actor was removed from the film All the Money in the World and lost his starring role on the Netflix series House of Cards after actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexual harassment.
Rapp alleged the incident occurred in 1986 when Spacey was 26 and he was 14. In response, Spacey released a statement in which he came out as gay and also claimed not to remember the incident.
“I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor,” Spacey said. “I honestly do not remember the encounter… But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”
Following Rapp’s allegations, more people came forward to accuse Spacey of sexual harassment, misconduct, and assault, including eight people from the set of House of Cards and 20 other testimonies from people at the Old Vic, an independent theater where Spacey served as artistic director for 11 years.
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles District Attorney confirmed to the Press Association that a sex crimes case against Spacey is currently being reviewed. ~Caitlyn Clancey
