Scarlett Johansson defends working with Woody Allen Published By Alexandra Heilbron on Sep 05, 2019

Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansson in ScoopIn spite of the fact that a number of actors have publicly expressed regret about working with director Woody Allen after he was accused of molesting his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow years earlier, Scarlett Johansson is standing solidly by the director.

Dylan wrote a New York Times article describing how she was sexually abused by Allen when she was a little girl. Published in 2014, it was framed as a letter, and went into detail about how and where the alleged abuse happened. She wrote that he'd behaved inappropriately towards her prior to the incident, but after he took her to the attic and sexually abused her when she was seven, she told her mother, Mia Farrow, for the first time about Allen and what he'd purportedly done -- and that's when a firestorm was triggered, ending her parents' relationship and starting a lengthy legal battle.

In light of Dylan Farrow's report, Greta Gerwig stated her regret at having worked with Allen. Timothée Chalamet donated his salary from his work on Allen's as-yet unreleased film A Rainy Day in New York to three charities, saying on Instagram: "I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary."

Rebecca Hall then announced she would donate her salary from A Rainy Day in New York to the Time's Up organization, while their co-star Griffin Newman donated his to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network).

Colin Firth told The Guardian in 2018, "I wouldn't work with him again." Mira Sorvino wrote an open letter to Dylan Farrow published by the Huffington Post that same year, telling her, "I cannot begin to imagine how you have felt, all these years as you watched someone you called out as having hurt you as a child, a vulnerable little girl in his care, be lauded again and again, including by me and countless others in Hollywood who praised him and ignored you... I am so, so sorry!”

During a podcast with The Hollywood ReporterThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan said she regretted working with Allen on the series Crisis in Six Scenes.

Scarlett, who has appeared in three movies directed by Allen, told The Hollywood Reporter in an article dated yesterday (Sept. 4, 2019), "I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime," adding, "He maintains his innocence, and I believe him."

However, at the 2018 Women's March on Washington, she called out James Franco, who wore a Time's Up pin to the Golden Globes. He was accused by five women of sexual misconduct, according to the Los Angeles Times. Although Franco has denied the allegations, just as Allen has denied the claims made against him, Scarlett doesn't seem to be quite as forgiving, saying, "How could a person publicly stand by an organization that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?"

Scarlett is currently filming the Avengers spin-off, Black Widow, which hits theaters May 1, 2020. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Very difficult case. We want to always believe every girl and woman. There was such malice between Mia Farrow and Woody because he did take up with her adopted girl from her marriage to Andre Previn and they are now married. Mia's other kids hate Woody.

He shouldn't be directing at all and no one should work with him at all.
  • Royeston - 9/5/2019 10:48:57 AM
Very sad!!! stuff like this should NEVER EVER happen, but it does! Everyone is up in arms against Woody (though he is a brilliant director). We should ALL look into the Woody inside of our own communities.....and address them. We have relatives (peeps we know SO WELL) who do stuff like this all the time and nobody says BOO! This goes for both men as well as women who indulge in inappropriate behavior and that is sick. Then we have hypocrites like James Franco, who wear the pin and still do nasty stuff behind the curtain. Speak up people...DO NOT BE AFRAID! and just know that "ME TOO" applies to women too.

Hypocrisy is strong in that one. What a load. As far as I'm concerned, Woody Allen is a despicable excuse for a human being. He is a predator and child molester. I will NEVER watch a movie with or by him. And I guess I'll now avoid Scarlett's work as well. She seems to following in the steps of... he didn't do anything to me so the rest of the world must be wrong. I suppose she also thinks Drumpf is okay because his hatred doesn't touch her? Entitled much?

Bravo Scarlett - nothing has been proved. Larry

Here's the thing. This is a matter for the Courts and God, done, said and done, nothing else. I do not judge, as others should not. It is offensive and disgusting yes? A continuing affair? To Judge innocent until proven guilty? Why are we still hammering away? Are we waiting for another story to appear, to pop up like a Jack in the box? is it really real? to excite the masses and feed the greed. Because we can and still do, because some are in the spotlight? Is this logical and a good example to prepare the young for their future endeavors? A continous protest? a lifelong dogwhipping? There are Seven Billion people. There are many instances of non-sexual acts, a lot worse but get lost in the hubbub. You know who and what I mean. Some things are too unthinkable to imagine. There were many tried and forgotten. Oh, until the smart ones bring or brought them back from the dead to remind us of those special days of lost love, lost innocence, a lost time to be reborn and rewritten and cherished? Is it helping us? Sure, hit the big screens or shelves once again, and make us better through T.V, it might make sense, and to what benefit? It is great to create jobs and make a living and to what expense. To keep us educated in that respect? What about the advancement of human kind. Am I writing this to show you there are other ways to keep us on the straight and narrow? An "innoncent" payoff or purchase? Or something more sinister, God only knows. The passing of another Legend and now lost in the flashbulbs, or paparazzi-fueled frenzy. Is this a distraction from other Global issues? Imagine what happens every single day. Are we teaching the young about the insanities of the past present and future? Should we not focus on today for tomorrow and learn from the Great teachers of the past. Should we go crazy judging day in day out for someone else's enjoyment? Why him? Because he is supposedly guilty. How can a person continually stride forward after many decades in the public? Because he can? He is smart? Or is he a real man of worth? Think about it. Would you take a serious beating and still manage what he has accomplished. What the ** is going on here? If someone is guilty, as many are known and unknown to be, leave it where it belongs. I feel guilty!! Why? Because I am just like you. To try and make you understand, will you ever? Too many have been lost in time. And the answer or question to this whole charade, shall we continue this path of destruction or fantasy? Let the jury go home in peace! They are tired too! Last but not least, make good use of your time if you can, but ask for guidance before acting out. Every decision we make or do will affect everyone around us. Just another citizen in this timex

I believe Woody as well.... Some of Mia Farrows children have stated that Mia and Dylan. If Woody was a serial rapist, he would not be able to hide this sort of thing and there would be signs of abuse with his own children. Most people who write on here don't know the car-wreck that was Woody and Mia's marriage. Woody Allen was never asked by the state police to take a polygraph but took one voluntary and passed. He asked to Mia Farrow to take one, she refused. Both Dr. Coates and Dr. Schlutz, Dylan and Ronan child psychologists, didn’t believe the abuse occurred. The judge said their judgement could have been colored by their loyalty to Mr. Allen. Neither Dr. Coates nor Dr. Schlutz were part of the team of experts commissioned by the State police and the prosecutor Frank Maco. After nine interview with Dylan and reviewing the videotape, the team concluded unambiguously that Dylan Farrow wasn’t abused sexually and suggested she was coached by Mia Farrow. Read this and tell me he is guilty: Woody Allen Sexual Abuse: Dylan Farrow is Lying 8 Times in 9 Paragraphs https://woodyallenmoblynching.com/dylan-farrow-woody-allen-sexual-abuse-8-lies/ You people are just too gullible.... His movies sucked anyways. Good guy or bad guy I hate his movies. And of course Scarjo is defending him, besides Woody Alken movies and Marvel Movies nobody would hire her. The emotional range of celery, I think I've heard before.
  • Shutruk Nahhunte - 9/5/2019 8:36:24 PM
Well, Devin, Woody Allen movies were never designed for illiterates.

If he isn't a child abuser then why did he marry his OWN adopted child?? He was having sex with this girl behind Mia's back until they got caught. So Woody's answer to this is to get married!! What a hypocrite!!!
  • Bony Hurdle - 9/6/2019 12:47:29 AM
Barbara: Once again, Soon-Yi was not his adopted daughter -- she was adopted by Mia Farrow and Andre Previn. Also, Mia and Woody never lived together during their relationship, nor was he any sort of father figure to Soon -Yi. Soon-Yi was also 19 when she started her relationship with Allen. Creepy to some, but not illegal, nor considered "child abuse". I love people like you who vomit out b.s. with absolutely no knowledge of the facts.
  • Bony Hurdle - 9/6/2019 12:57:26 AM
Robert: Woody and Mia were never married, nor did they ever live together during their relationship.

In every case of a child abuser that becomes public, there are eventually many abusers, not one. The late Liz Smith, a longtime respected entertainment columnist, wrote in her biography that Mia Farrow frequently called her with damaging info about Woody which Smith, who decided this was simply revenge, refused to print. One of Mia's adopted children, now a psychologist, state that Mia frequently urged him to back up the children molestation claim as well a longtime housekeeper who said in a sworn statement that Mia also asked her to support this story. Both refused.. That's enough for me. Mia Farrow has some chutzpah! She broke up conductor Andre Previn's longtime marriage so publicly that Dore Previn threatened suicide. And speaking of chutzpah, who is this young woman to criticize actors like Cate Blanchett for working with Woody? In the meantime, nobody is making an eternal row about Roman Polanski's ADMISSION about his actions with a teenager whom he first drugged!
  • Ruth Reitan - 9/6/2019 5:12:03 PM
The writer makes an unfair comparison here: Scarlett Johansson believes Woody Allen's innocence and that's why she defends him; she does not "forgive" him because because she believes he's being falsely accused. In the case of James Franco, she apparently believes the five credible adult female accounts of his harassment. Every person has the right and indeed the responsibility to assess for themselves. I personally believe that both Dylan thinks it happened, and Woody that it did not in the way she remembers. Neither is lying; neither is telling the "objective" truth because in the cases of affection between estranged people, there is none. But the fact that Mia Farrow would so casually drop that Frank Sinatra "may" be her son Ronan's father, yet insist that Woody pays child support on "his" kid... I think Mia has one standard of truth for herself, and another for her ex. The state of New York has cleared him and ruled him fit to adopt. Twice. This should mean something.

The well of public opinion was poisoned against Woody Allen from the beginning. Also, you have a Jewish writer/director/actor who one might say is "Very Jewish"...Larry David's words to Jerry Seinfeld describing himself (David). Combine the emotional hot button of child molestation, and Woody as a tempting and easy target by closeted and overt anti-Semites...add to that already smoking cauldron Ms. Farrow's highly suspect mental state (the above mentioned coaching of the children, and more...) and you have your "Fruit of the poisonous tree..." scenario---at least something akin to it.

I too believe Woody. I consider myself a feminist, and the Me Too! Movement is long overdue. I tend to believe the women who report abuse, but this is one of the exceptions for me. Look back to Robert’s 9/5/19 comment. It spells out pretty clearly why it’s hard for me to accept Dylan and Mia’s claim of sexual abuse towards Dylan as a child. Although I’m a fan of Woody’s work, I am also a fan of Mia’s work, so l’m not simply choosing one over the other. I won’t stop here to verify what I’ve read somewhere, but As I recall Mia discovered nude pictures of Soon Yi in Woody’s things which was in large part what lead to ending Mia’s relationship with Woody. Sure, Woody is no saint, but neither are the other parties involved. It is has been reported by Ronan Farrow, and Mia has indicated, that Frank Sinatra is his father. This would have happened during Mia’s relationship with Woody. Did Woody know or suspect Frank Sinatra? We may never know, but I’m still a fan of both of their work.
  • Rose - 9/7/2019 6:57:14 PM
A reminder to everyone: Woody took pictures of himself and Soon-Yi and strategically placed them in various places of Mia Farrow’s house to purposely hurt her! I stopped watching any of his movies after that fiasco! He and the girl are sickos!!!
  • Susan - 9/7/2019 8:28:37 PM
I believe the girl!! Woody has always been despicable! Look at the guy! Why would he marry an adopted child of Miss? He probably molested her too! These predators in Hollywood have been molestng children for decades n Tom Hanks n Steven Spielberg need to be looked into! People in Hollywood know these predators n look the other way for what??The money! They’ll answer to our Lord one day!

No matter what heinous thing someone does, someone else will always give the perpetrator a pass. A lot of sick thinking out there.
  • Kelryth - 9/9/2019 5:39:30 AM
Woody Allen was accused of molesting the child not convicted of the crime and until that happens he is innocent until proven guilty. Accusations are not proof of guilt.
  • Marlene - 9/9/2019 11:01:52 PM
I think he is a pervert, left a good wife to marry a child they raised,,was having sex with her, when she was a child gross,I avoid all of his movies,I can only see a pervert !!
