War for the Planet of the ApesWar for the Planet of the Apes fought hard against resident box-office champion Spider-Man: Homecoming, but came out triumphant, pushing the web-slinging superhero to second spot.

It was a successful opening weekend for the film that finds Caesar (Andy Serkis) taking up arms for Ape-kind against a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). War for the Planet of the Apes took in $56.5 million and garners a 3.4-star review from our users.

Dropping one spot to second was the latest Marvel superhero flick, Spider-Man: Homecoming. In its second week, the film has grossed a total of $208.3 million, including the $45.2 million earned this past weekend. Spider-Man: Homecoming has a rating of 3.2 out of 5 stars from our users.

After landing in second spot last week, Despicable Me 3 takes third spot at the box office. The film earned $18.9 million in its third week, making its total gross $188 million. Our users are enjoying the family-friendly animated film, giving it a rating of 3.2 stars.

Baby Driver fell one spot from third to fourth in its third week of release. The fast-paced crime thriller earned $8.8 million at the domestic box office this weekend, making its current total gross $73.2 million. Our users are enjoying the ride and give the film a 3.9-star rating.

Rounding out the top five was The Big Sick. After three weeks of a previously limited release, the heartwarming comedy opened wide this weekend and added $7.6 million to make its current domestic gross $16 million. The film has a rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars from our users. ~Alexa Caruso

    Not really a fan of ape movies, but this one has been getting a lot of buzz, I might check it out.
