Wonder Woman 1984 tops weekend box officeSeveral new movies debuted just in time for Christmas and made it into the top five at the weekend box office.

Taking the number one spot was Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, which took in $16.7 million at the domestic box office.

News of the World starring Tom Hanks as a Civil War veteran debuted in second place, pulling in a total of $2.4 million over the three-day weekend.

The animated comedy The Croods: A New Age dropped one spot to third place in its fifth weekend in theaters, earning an additional $1.73 million for a total of $30.3 million.

Taking the fourth spot was the sci-fi action flick Monster Hunter starring Milla Jovovich, earning an additional $1.13 million for a two-week total of $4.2 million.

Rounding out the top five was the revenge thriller Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan, taking in $680,000. ~Alexandra Heilbron
