Decent not too horror movie without cheap scares and a good story instead. Jeremy Thomas is excellent and very convincing as poor Lucas, so is his brother Aiden. Kerri Russel is good as the concerned teacher, suspecting abuse by her own experience. Lucas presenting his story in class gave me goosebumps. Jesse Plemons is a bit dull as the town‘s Sheriff, maybe on purpose. Overall very dark but enjoyable if you are in the mood for it. Nice small but important role for Graham Greene, along the lines of myths and fables.

This is not the typical horror movie you might expect. It’s not coming up with cheap effects but with a human story. In the center, we have Lucas and his brother, who caught the attention of his teacher. We slowly learn what happened to them and their father. Great build-up. Then there is the mythological story behind it, well told by Graham Green. The solution is chilling but inevitable and painful, so here we go. While you are left with great performances of Lucas and his brother, a sad ending overall. Better than the rating might suggest.

Okay until the ending, where the mousy schoolteacher dispatches the antagonistic force far too easily. Russell's character isn't really likable at all, and "childhood trauma" of her character doesn't congrue with the main plot at all. And are we really supposed to believe that attractive Russell and the fat meatball Jesse Plemons are siblings? Give me a break!

Was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie was. X-tra scares and scary scenes. So delighted to have a new horror movie out that actually makes U jump out of your chair.
