Compelling viewing. The uncompromising portrayal of the lead is unexpected in a US movie which just adds to the theme. Actually, there is a compromise in that there are essentially 2 endings in the movie. This is a very clever trick which allows you to be satisfied by the completion of the movie whether you prefer hard-nosed "reality" or a light of promise and positive change.
