most of the movie is waiting for something to happen.

Saturday, July 22, 05:41:33 PM

Low budget groaner. I felt cheated of my money.

Saturday, July 22, 05:36:08 PM

I would have to rate it just an OK war movie. It was hard to tell who the enemy was during the aerial fighting at times. Special effects were so so. None of the actors appealed to me at all. Sound effects were way too loud and lacking.

Saturday, July 22, 04:40:15 PM

We ( husband and I) wanted to watch a good war movie. It was our 45th wedding anniversary. So we chose Dunkirk. It had no plot, the sound was so loud it rattled our seats and our teeth. When they talked you could not hear or understand what they were saying. You could not tell, why was the enemy and who was the good guys. Please play this in the class room and the kids will stay awake and maybe learn some history from it. As for the public, not so much!

Harry styles was a great actor

Saturday, July 22, 01:13:03 PM

After seeing Private Ryan there is No way this movie deserve 5 stars. It was an ok movie

Saturday, July 22, 11:15:29 AM

This movie has very good special effects. It is also quite soulless with no real characters. WW2 is a very long time ago now. The story of Dunkirk is fading away with the generations. As a baby boomer I grew up with the story of Dunkirk. I am familiar with its outlines. I wonder how people of more recent generations will perceive this portrayal of it.

Superb storytelling that uses time as a way to see the story from perspectives. Cinematography is stunning. Acting is quietly effective and at times Oscar caliber. Even the telling eyes of Tom Hardy are worth the price of admission. Nolan's best screenplay by far.

Christopher Nolan has done an impressive job with this succinct movie depiction of what happened at Dunkirk. Nolan waited 10 years to make this movie. It shows how humanity is what wins wars, how the good in us all is what grabs your heart strings even when stuck in an impossible predicament where only a miracle can get you out. The stellar cast are impressive- amongst them: James D'Arcy, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Brannagh, Cillian Murphy, et al. The young heroes played by Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Adan Long and Jack Lowden as a pilot , Harry Stiles in his acting debut, and Barry Keoghan and all cast members involved play their roles well. In this conflict where the British, Canadian and Belgium troops were trapped on the beaches by the German forces, Nolan says what needs to be said in 106 minutes. The music resonates very strongly and impacts the action , pulls your heart strings and drives the message of what Nolan is trying to state as well as the imagery. No gore is needed. Only a homage to those who were involved. In the air, in the water and on the land. They remind me of my grandfather who served in the Second World War. The bravery of those who enlisted as well as those citizens who risked their lives to save them is what is at the core. What war is, how it affects us, and the inextinguishable human Spirit. Bravo Christopher Nolan.

Beat suspenseful WAR movie ever made. Director is definitely in (late great) KUBRICK'S league.

Friday, July 21, 07:20:46 PM

The reality of war was shown in this movie to a degree. The sound effects were intense at times which made it possible to feel & hear what the soldiers might have. The action scenes were good. However, it should have had an introduction in the beginning explaining the events that took place at Dunkirk - more than the 3 sentences they did show. Especially for those that were not familiar with its history. My opinion is that I wouldn't say it was a great movie, but it was ok.

An emotionally engaging film about an incredible moment in history. Worth both your time and your money.

Friday, July 21, 08:39:12 AM

They might as well give Harry Styles the Oscar right now.

Friday, July 21, 02:19:33 AM

Thursday, July 20, 04:28:59 PM

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, July 20, 02:25:46 PM

Christopher Nolan was amazing in this movie. A very gripping and emotional movie that made you feel like you were right in the middle of the action. If you are a war movie fan this is a must a see.

Christopher Nolan does it again. Great war movie with fantastic cinematography, well worth seeing in IMAX. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and the constant heavy drone in the subwoofers adds to the stress during the film. I really appreciated that it wasn't a typical American war movie in the sense that there is no love story. It's pure warfare, it pulls you in and makes you worried for the fate of the characters. In my opinion, the only small downside was that the deaths weren't gory enough - not that I was expecting gore from Nolan. It just would have been more realistic to see a little blood when soldiers get bombed on the beach and die. All in all, great movie.

Thursday, July 20, 02:01:52 PM

Visually this movie had it all from the streets of Dunkirk, to the beaches, to the small boats rescuing the soldiers and into the air with a couple of spitfire pilots. Action at every turn with body beating sound effects. Lacking though was character development to capture the audience interest in the central figures. I was confused early in the film until I realised the director was time jumping backwards and forward to give the audience the knowledge of all the different activities happening within a short period of time. A good movie but not destined to be defined as a great movie. It does give people an insight into a critical moment in WWII.

Dunkirk is a real, gripping and emotionally-driven war film that places you right in the middle of the conflict making you feel the fear of uncertainty in this grim situation. With great performances and a mesmerizing score, Dunkirk is sure to be a contender come award season.

Thursday, July 20, 11:18:03 AM

Christopher Nolan magic yet again. This movie was loud, moving, emotional, I think it gave the viewer a taste of the uncertainty of war. A couple complaints though, 1. The accents and background noise made it sometimes hard to hear he dialogue. 2. All of the main characters looked similar, had similar hair cuts, so it was hard to discern who was who. 3. Most of the actors who were waiting in the beach were wearing their helmet, except the characters that were being focused on, and I found that distracting. Overall you knew going in exactly what you were going to get a sad, loud, war pic and that's exactly what you get.

Thursday, July 20, 10:46:31 AM

Dunkirk was a good movie, but it could have been a great movie. While the film contains many of the trademarks aspects of Christopher Nolan films, they feel somewhat muted in this case. The visuals are superb, but the constant and unfortunately noticeable switching of aspect ratios really detracts from them. The writing is superb, but with the movies large cast and short run time, the characters feel underdeveloped. The ending, while realistic in nature, doesn’t feel quite as cinematic as one might hope. Overall, it’s worth a watch, but it certainly doesn’t rank among Nolan’s best.

Thursday, July 20, 10:31:19 AM

Christopher Nolan did a tremendous job once again, it was a spectacular movie!

Thursday, July 20, 10:19:37 AM

Dunkirk was visually spectacular boasting breathtaking cinematography featuring sprawling horizons that really stand out in the aerial dogfight sequences. Seeing the film in IMAX really made these scenes breathtaking. The sound effects help create an ambiance of panic stricken fear accompanied by the fairly realistic battle scenes which aren't really over the top as I don't believe any CGI was utilized. The story and character development lack though and the movie feels a bit empty on this front. I can understand the storyline being a bit thin as it can easily be summed up by reading the tagline to the film, but the movie doesn't take enough time to develop the main characters enough for the audience to really connect with and care for them which I found unfortunate. Overall, this film is still worth the watch and has many strong attributes.

Thursday, July 20, 10:14:43 AM

Beautiful scenery and excellent sound track. I really felt the pain, suffering and agony of the soldiers who did their duty and service at Dunkirk. The movie really captured all the elements of this war and then some. Highly recommend Alexander Nolan's epic movie. Oscar-worthy for sure. Bravo! Would go back and see it a 2nd time.

Thursday, July 20, 09:43:30 AM

I think this will be an Oscar movie. Its beautifully shot and has a lot of heart. Its filmed in an "artsy" way that the Academy likes but not in a pretentious way that a laymen viewer can still appreciate. Hardly any speaking parts to this movie, which was pretty impressive. It was all about the actors emoting the hardships of war. Now because its an "Oscar" film...it will probably get a lot of hype that it's some fantastic film...so I want to make clear that I don't feel its a movie for the masses. You have to like this type of genre of film. If you like war movies and movies about grit survival then consider seeing it. Keep in mind, there's no grand cinematic visual effects and crazy action sequences. Its a story told in a unique way and a story that leaves you feeling hopeful about humanity. I myself recommend it. Go see it.

Thursday, July 20, 09:26:29 AM

Intense film making at its finest. From the cinematography, to the unnerving and pulse inducing score, definitely an amazing experience. One of the best war based films I've ever seen.

Thursday, July 20, 09:25:43 AM

Excellent movie

Thursday, July 20, 12:27:48 AM

This movie really impressed me. I generally do not like war films as such; but this was so moving. At times, I found myself leaning in for more of the action and overall efect / experience of the ??. I was truly engrossed by the cinematography. Worth seeing, a home run in my book ?? ??

Sunday, December 18, 03:43:49 PM

Would go see this but I don't like the lead actor or the kid from One Direction.
