Synopsis

Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel), the commandant of Auschwitz, lives with his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hüller) and four children in a house with a large garden, right next to the camp. As they work and play in the garden and yard, sounds can be heard coming from the concentration camp as trains arrive, shots ring out, Nazis shout orders and smoke rises from chimneys as bodies are burned.

However, nothing perturbs the German family. They receive goods taken away from Jewish prisoners, have prisoners do chores for them, and throw parties for their friends and neighbors in the shadow of Auschwitz.
