Avril Lavigne blasts Mark Zuckerberg for Nickelback joke Published By Tribute on Dec 23, 2016

Avril LavigneMark Zuckerberg be warned: Don't mess with Avril Lavigne's (ex) man.

After the Facebook CEO made a video joke about Nickelback earlier this week, the "Complicated" singer took to social media to call out the billionaire for "promoting bullying."

On Tuesday (Dec. 20), Mark debuted Jarvis on Facebook, an artificially intelligent "digital butler" for any smart home that he's been developing for several years. During a two-minute video summary/demonstration of the technology, the philanthropist poked fun at the oft-derided Canadian band.

"Play us some good Nickelback songs," he asked Jarvis (appropriately voiced by Morgan Freeman), to which the device answered, "I'm sorry Mark, I'm afraid I can't do that…there are no good Nickelback songs."

Mark paused and then replied, "Good. That was actually a test."

The seemingly harmless jab apparently did not go over well with Avril, who was formerly married to Nickelback's lead singer Chad Kroeger. The Canadian songstress took to Twitter on Thursday (Dec. 22) to valiantly defend her ex-hubby and his band.

"Dear Mark, many people use your products—some people love them and some people don't. Either way, you're allowed your musical opinion however, your jab at Nickelback is in poor taste," she wrote. "When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what's going on in the world today."

She concluded with, "#SayNoToBullying #TheJokeIsOld #NickelbackHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums." ~Shelby Morton

Yes, Avril is absolutely right! I think it's demeaning what Mark Zukerberg is saying. What are all these put downs about Nickel Back? They are a great band and do not deserve this kind of treatment. Why don't they pick on other performers who can't even sing and lip sink when they perform. Chad has an amazing voice. Paulina

I wouldn't go so far as to call it bullying, but I'm with her....the joke is old. I actually like a lot of Nickelback songs...there are way worse artists out there, and they've done pretty well for themselves despite how "awful" everyone claims they are.

I do not care for Nickeback at all. So like any artist or celebrity, you have to be able to take the comments from the critics as well as the fans cause that's the real world and you can't please everybody all of the time. A little fun poked is better dealt with by laughing off or ignoring.

It all started with a popular person making a not so nice remark. Squads, gangs, cliques, they all mean the same thing and when a leading personality makes a statement that could create conflict it usually does. Mark Zuckerberg is a geek. A rich geek but still a geek. Because he let his personal opinion become a professional mistake, there could be ramifications financially. Cause and effect. It looks as if people may be finally de-mistified. It may not happen overnight, but I really hope he sees that he can't continually make weird statements and get away with it. YES, he is a bully. It's so sad that he will get away with it.
