Kevin Spacey compares his situation to coronavirus layoffs Published By Marriska Fernandes on May 06, 2020

Kevin Spacey
Kevin Spacey is speaking out for the first time since the multiple sexual assault allegations against him in 2017.

After the allegations, he was immediately dropped from the hit series House of Cards. Not only that, but he was replaced by Christopher Plummer in the 2017 feature film All the Money in the World, even though he'd already wrapped filming. His participation was completely cut out and reshoots took place involving the actors playing opposite Plummer. The Netflix film Gore, starring Spacey as Gore Vidal, had also been completed in 2017 but no longer has a release date.

Spacey is now saying that he can relate to people who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus layoffs.

In an interview with “Bits & Pretzels” podcast, he said: "I don’t often like to tell people that I can relate to their situation because I think it undermines the experience that they may be having, which is their own unique and very personal experience. But in this instance, I feel as though I can relate to what it feels like to have your world suddenly stop." He continued, "And so while we may have found ourselves in similar situations, albeit for very different reasons and circumstances, I still believe that some of the emotional struggles are very much the same."

He believes he knows what it feels like to "suddenly be told that you can’t go back to work or that you might lose your job and that it’s a situation that you have absolutely no control over."

He continues to describe his "painful" journey since the allegations. He said: "I don’t think it will come as a surprise for anyone to say that my world completely changed in the fall of 2017. My job, many of my relationships, my standing in my own industry, were all gone in just a matter of hours." In 2017, Spacey was accused by various men, one of whom was a minor at the time of the incident, of sexually harassing, assaulting and groping them. He has, however, denied any criminal behavior.

"And so while we may have found ourselves in similar situations, albeit for very different reasons and circumstances, I still believe that some of the emotional struggles are very much the same.

"When my career came to a grinding, screeching halt, when I was faced with the uncertainty that I might never be hired as an actor again, I had to ask myself a question I’d never asked myself before which is, ‘If I can’t act, who am I?'

"It’s at these kinds of moments that the most important thing to remember is that we have our health. Our physical health but also our mental health. The health of our family, of our children, our parents if we’re still lucky enough to have them with us."

I always liked Kevin Spacey and I find it funny how certain people who do get multiple chances after messing up while others don't ever get another chance. It's like they're just dismissed from the world completely. Kevin definitely deserves another chance as does anybody. This world has really gotten ridiculous with the political correctness. Any little thing someone does or did years ago is brought back up and damages peoples careers. You have to apologize for everything. You got all these people on social media criticizing everyone for any mistake they make no matter how big or small just to make themselves feel good and like they achieved some kind of victory in their sad lives. To many dumb movements and the real movements that should be happening is standing up to corrupt governments and Law Enforcement which have been crooked from the dawn of time and everyone just keeps going along with it and not getting together to get justice once and for all.

Kevin Spacey is an actor of true and genuine talent. He is also a human being. I find it outrageous that because he is a celebrity, he is being punished for past events in his personal life that may or not be true. This man deserves another chance to live his life in peace and dignity, and to once again entertain us with his extraordinary talent. Missing you Mr Spacey.

He's lucky he's not behind bars. He should quit whining. He did not just one terrible thing, but many terrible things over and over. Is Lance Armstrong a pro cyclist? Will he ever be again? No and same goes for Kevin Spacey. Your career is over dude. Take it like a man. A sexually aggressive man who goes for little boys.

Was he ever indicted of any crime? My Google searches say he wasn't - but I might be wrong. But, if I'm not wrong and he wasn't indicted, then why is he still smeared by past accusations? How many Amber Heards do we need to stop going after "ACCUSED" (not INDICTED) people? I'm SO glad these whole SJW thing is going in decline, as it always was supposed to.

Kevin Spacey made his own mess. It is not a foreign virus that you have no control over. His comments show his lack of understanding for what he did and his failure to take responsibility.

Oddly enough I had a dream about Mr Spacey last night before reading this. The dream was like a movie where he was working in an office/warehouse type setup and I was trying to be employed there as well. We passed each other in the hallway And stopped at an open door and chat about how his life has changed and he was glad to have any opportunity. Hopefully of all things he will get on track to being a professional in his personal life, be professional as an employee and as a human being. If he did such things he should be punished forever. If he didn’t he should straighten things out and fond a way to fix it

I can see both sides of the story. But this amounts to nothing but cancel culture.

Why, when there is no conviction, and the man proclaims innocence, is he damned? This me too, is out of control, lives ruined on somebody’s say so, unfair

Kevin Spacey...you speak like a true predator. There will never be a change, the only person(if one can call him that) he is fooling is himself.

He has great talent and it's a same for the world to lose such talent. As for his personal life therapy.

    OMG, is he for real?

Such a fool to compare his downfall to the current pandemic.

Kevin Spacey you are a joke!! Too think you are whining because of your situation which YOU brought upon YOURSELF. If there was nothing to these charges you would not be losing acting jobs my friend!! And for those who sympathize with a sexual predator go ahead. It will be a shock when you read he was charge & jailed. Right now nothing can go to courts because of the virus. What a complete waste of time trying to drum up sympathy for this idiot!! Comparing yourself the the pandemic is ludicrious! It is a VIRUS not SEXUAL EXPLOTATION. One goes away eventually the other stays with YOUR victims for life!!!! It is in their DNA they try to take the focus away from them by making the victims look bad!! Get over yourself!!!

@Gary, Couldn't have said it better. He made his own mess by preying on others. There is no correlation to losing one's job, one's livelihood, due to COVID-19. What an ass. He wants the public's sympathy when he probably has loads of money and lives in comfort, while the average person is scrambling to pay rent during these tough times. Doesn't sound like he's learned anything about himself. He's just a narcissist. Whether or not he's a good actor is not the point.

greetings from Canada. I am a HUGE fan of Kevin Spacey's work, and my favorite was K-PAX. I miss him, and movies have been a drag since he was sidelined. I hope he can get back to what he is so talented at...and that is acting. He is so talented, and I also love how he can mimic other voices and characters! Hope he gets back on late night talk shows, as they have been a drag as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the positive comments about Kevin Spacey. He is an amazing versatile actor. He can go from one role into another with ease and believability. All actors have been accused of one thing or another, while I don't condone his actions, there are too many actors, directors, producers etc that have been given chance after chance and people still forgive them for "making bad choices or a mistake". Ken in Spacey made some really bad choices and bad mistakes, but it DOES NOT CHANGE HIS ACTING ABILITY.
