Going in Style is hilariously heartwarming: Blu-ray review Published By Tribute on Aug 01, 2017

Going in Style now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.Zach Braff's remake of the 1979 comedy of the same name finds three old friends (and legendary actors) -- Joe (Michael Caine), Willie (Morgan Freeman) and Al (Alan Arkin) -- out on the lam after robbing a bank.

The film begins with Joe meeting his shifty bank manager to discuss why his mortgage payments have gone up. Suddenly, a robbery occurs and the bandits make it out with large sums of cash. Joe is later questioned at the police station in the hopes that he may be able to provide info that could aid the authorities with the arrest.

Shortly after, Joe and his buddies Willie and Al find out that their pension payments are to be frozen indefinitely after the company they worked for is sold to a foreign buyer -- in a deal being handled by their own bank. That's when Joe gets the idea that if robbers can get away with stealing from the bank, maybe they can too.

The three devise a plan to hit up the bank they believe stole from them and aim to only take what's rightfully theirs. But being a bank robber is a lot more difficult than the three anticipated and they soon find themselves under investigation by the authorities.

I have to say this film was equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. The chemistry between Caine, Freeman and Arkin was endearing and believable to say the least. It was also hard not to sympathize with their plight throughout the film -- they get cheated by their company and the bank and just want what's rightfully theirs.

I found myself chuckling throughout, and at only a little over 90 minutes in length, it's perfect to enjoy with a little popcorn and the family on a weeknight. Ultimately, the jokes were cute and the characters were enjoyable to watch.

If you're looking for a lighthearted film with laughs and a story that tugs at your heartstrings, then look no further.

Special Features:
The Going in Style Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is a little light on the special features, but includes a selection of deleted scenes from the film as well as commentary from director Zach Braff.
