George Clooney did a fantastic directing job. A couple cutaways were funny af. It was a good coming of age movie and at least the kid pursued his dream and it wasn't one of those movies where the kid argues with the parent later that they are living the life the parent wanted. In this case it seemed like a good compromise where the kid went to the University the parent wanted, but still found a way to pursue his dream. And first loves suck! His first was rather cruel. Affleck was actually really good. I watched The Way Back last week and it feels kind of similar swearing and drinking character who dispenses valuable advice but with this, it seemed to delve further into it. He is a direct father figure and a little rough around the edges but he raised a good kid.
