    That was the day my kids surprised me with a family portrait and baby photos of their new brother. I had wanted that so bad for so long but my 3 eldest girls were either married or away in school so it just didn't seem possible. So much went wrong for it to go right. But they did it all in an hour and I was not the wiser. They met around the block so I would catch them. On Christmas day when it was revealed I cried it was so beautiful I will never forget it.

    My best gift was a sweater from my parents when I was 12 years old (I am in my 70's now). I made a Purple skirt in Home Ec class - with a decorative trim down the one side. I loved the skirt when I was finished. When I opened my gift under the tree the sweater was a perfect match for the skirt I made. I wore it the first day back to school after the holidays - and so many people complemented me on the finished outfit. I still remember the outfit today. That sweater was more important than any gift I received later on in life.

    I remember the two dolls in my childhood that I wanted so badly, Thumballina and Chrisie. Thumballina was a small baby doll that my Grandmother made a series of clothes for. Chrisie was a large 24" walking doll that had hair that could grow and retract with a knob in her back. I loved those dolls so much as a kid. I still have them and will soon be handing them over to my two Granddaughters in another year or two.

    My Father always marched to the tune of a different drummer. If I asked him for something that was popular at the time guaranteed he would never buy it. However, this Scottish gentleman would always dress up in his finest apparel, head down to Holt Renfrew and Yorkville and buy the most unusual gift you could imagine. He wasn’t rich, just a working stiff, but took pleasure in unique items. The best gift I received from him was a black scarf with gold lame. I’m sure he spent a pretty penny. What is best is that 30 yeRs later it has withstood the test of time and to this day I get compliments and asked where it was purchased . Thank you Dad, L’Chaim.

    When I lived in Japan in my twenties, I met an older gentleman who used to hang out at the same karaoke snack bar that I did. We became friends and before I left the country, he presented me with a 3" long and 2" wide tree branch that he had hand-carved into six figurines that nested into each other to keep the shape of the original branch. I was so touched by the intricate work that he put into this beautiful carving. This is the most meaningful gift that I ever received.

    The best gift I ever recieved was the one I thought I'd never get a Chatty Cathy doll. My dad was ill and my mom was not making a lot of money in fact she told her us there would be next to nothing for Christmas; but a neighbour woman (who even to this day I think of Mrs.Santa Claus) bought and brought giftsand delivered them for me and my siblings at 5am Christmas morning and saved our Christmas. I loved that doll and wore out the record about fifty times so much so that my brother took it apart and fixed it so many times that it was put to together with duct tape.
