The 2021 Golden Globes is the latest award show to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had not yet announced a date for next year’s ceremony, the Golden Globes usually take place the first weekend in January to help set the pace for the award season. The ceremony will now be held on February 28, 2021, the date the Oscars was originally supposed to air, before being moved to April 25, 2021.
After the Academy announced the April date for the Oscars, the Golden Globes were expected to take place later than usual. In fact, the move prompted many other award shows, including the BAFTAs, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Critics’ Choice Awards to reschedule for later in the year.
Much like the Academy, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will release a new set of eligibility requirements in the coming weeks. Submissions are usually due the first week of December, however many productions have been put on hold or rescheduled release dates due to theater closures.
“To accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks,” the organization said in a press release.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will still host the 2021 broadcast, which will air live on NBC. ~Brie Davis
