Newcomer The Invisible Man debuts in first place at the weekend box office.
Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man made an estimated $29 million in its debut weekend. Costing only $7 million to make (not including marketing fees), it's already a financial hit for Universal Pictures. The well-reviewed film follows Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss), a woman terrified of her abusive boyfriend, whom she believes has found a way to be invisible. Click here to read our review.
After two weekends at the top, Sonic the Hedgehog lost the race and had to settle for second place. The family friendly video game adaptation made an additional $16 million this weekend for a domestic total of $128.3 million.
Also falling one spot was The Call of the Wild. The latest big screen adaptation of Jack London’s classic novel starring Harrison Ford earned an estimated $13.2 million for a domestic total of $$45.9 million.
Debuting in fourth place was FUNimation's My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, which earned $6.3 million from 1,260 theatres in North America. Since debuting last Wednesday, the animated Japanese action/adventure film has earned $9.6 million.
Rounding out the top five, Sony’s hit sequel Bad Boys for Life, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, fell one spot from last weekend, earning another $4.3 million. Its domestic total now stands at $197.4 million in its seventh weekend. ~Marriska Fernandes
