The Upside posterThe Upside, which debuted Friday, follows a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who hires an unqualified ex-con (Kevin Hart) as his caretaker. The movie grossed $20.4 million, landing it in first place.

Dropping to second spot in its fourth weekend was the superhero film Aquaman, which follows Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) as he struggles to claim the throne to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis from his younger half-brother. It earned an additional $17.3 million for a total domestic gross of $287.9 million.

Debuting in third was A Dog’s Way Home, which follows a young man (Jonah Hauer-King) as he adopts a stray puppy, who then goes missing. The film earned $11.3 million in its first weekend.

In its fifth weekend in theaters, the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse crept back up a spot to fourth place at the box office, earning an additional $9 million for a total gross of $147.8 million.

Rounding out the top five was the thriller Escape Room, which took in $8.9 million for a total gross of $32.5 million in its second weekend. ~Marriska Fernandes
