Okay remake.
Excellent effects. Can't wait for the next one.
Loved the sound, sets, acting, awesome filming. Character development could have been better. Loved it. I saw on IMAX. Wow!
Original was great - we don't need a remake.
Why do remake GOOD movies? Stick with the original.
This is NOT a ‘remake’ of an ‘original version’. It is a new film adaptation of the novel. It is NOT a ‘superhero’ movie or MCU film for kids. This is a sci-fi film for grownups. There will be a next chapter, just like there was for The Empire Strikes Back and The Fellowship of The Ring.
This is not a family friendly movie and we do not recommend it. We are superhero fans, but this was not a good representation of what typically is considered superheroes. Special effects were good, but it was slow moving and disjointed…plot was all over the place.
Producers of this remake were obviously hoping to piggyback off the publicity surrounding the release of the original DUNE on 4-K blu-ray for the first time. This retelling is not so much a bad movie as it is an unnecessary one.
Timothee Chalamet is a poor Paul Atreides.
Beautiful set pieces. The special FX were quite life like and the practical effects were very well done. Good start to the story of Dune.
Visually this movie is excellent, but the sound quality was poor. It seemed like the majority of the actors were mumbling throughout the movie. My friend remarked on this as well after the film. I look forward to seeing this film on either DVD or Blu-ray with subtitles.
acting not great, long boring
BORING AND LONG! SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE GREAT THOUGH! THIS IS ONLY PART ONE AND SORRY TO SAY I WON'T BE SEING PART TWO! ONE HAS TO BE IN A CULT FOLLOWING OF THE OLD MOVIE TO ENJOY THIS ONE!
You can definitely see the family resemblance between Chani and her father, Dr. Kynes. It made the story that much more real I thought.
Kyle MacLachlan, the known universe needs you...
Best ever version of Dune! I expected nothing less from Denis Villeneuve. Remember, there is SOOO much action in the second half of the book. The cinematography and acting were superb. Timothee Chalamet was wonderful. I can't wait to see the final film.
Chalamet was so wrong for this and unfortunately his miscasting outweighs the movie's attributes.
I enjoyed this story from the moment it began until the end. Many of my favorite actors were in the movie including Jason Momoa who made this a delightful movie experience. Rebecca Ferguson stole the show. The other strong women characters gave the story dimension. Thank you for casting a fun group of actors. I'm going to see this movie again.
Fantastic visuals. Unfortunately Chalamet cast as Paul was a mistake. Too skinny, not a leader-type actor.
It's fun, but the original is still best. Cast was very impressive in the remake, especially Jason Alexander as Duncan Idaho.
The best family film of the year. Don't miss it.
Did they ride the sandworms for real...?
absolute unit of a movie
I thought it was common for most Fremen of the desert to have beards, yet here Doctor Kynes is clean-shaven.
It's a decent remake in many respects, but disappointing in some aspects, too. 3/5
Total fan of the original book and movie, but this takes it to a whole new level. I’m going to see it again!
It's been years since I read the novel but wasn't Dr. Kynes a guy in the book?!
A listless lead is the only misstep, but it's a big one.
It was a great adaptation of a classic sci-fi!
This is a beautifully crafted film, adapted faithfully from the famous epic Sc-Fi book by Frank Herbert. The plot is true to Herbert's vision; the special effects are breath-taking and seamless, and the acting is flawless.
The visual effects of the ornithopters, and the sand "waves" created by a sandworm passing close by the desert rocks were my favorite things. Great casting for the most part, but I wish they'd stayed true to the book when casting Liet Kynes.
Stick with the original.
loved it cant wait for more of the saga
Loved this movie, not familiar with the story line but will read up on it now..looking forward to the next one!!!
DUNE Movie critique: Many times the loud whispering is unintelligible. Did not enjoy film at all. Starts in the year 10,000 something, and opening scenes show todays normalcy and utensils at the table, and a surly little brat as son making demands on mother. What's different here? Did not get the theme at all except some in rags and some in phony looking suits of armor were always fighting. The 'Dragon Fly' choppers are a bust! Waste of money on both sides of the screen. Spend your money on 'The Last Dual' instead. Dune has great visuals and cinematics however. And the shields is a joke. The film presentation was dark with low levels of lighting such that you can't disseminate what is happening in the scenes. Lastly, the 500 or so piece orchestra completely dominated the sound track so strongly that at times it was extremely irritating, with extended periods of loud, obnoxious tone. Can you imagine 500 instruments playing the same tone at 100db for nearly a minute? As a rating in a one to 10 scale, 10 being a great, it's a three, maybe a 4. I'm sure fans will add to this or denigrate it, but all in all it's Bla!
The biggest letdown was the sandworms, which looked computer-generated.
I went in thinking I would not like it - but I enjoyed it 100%. The script was written a little bit more to the understanding of the original one. GO - you will like it
One of the best remakes out there, but still falls short of the original.
This movie may not be for everyone, but if you are a fan of the book, this is the best production of Dune on the big screen to date. Compared with Lynch’s 80s version, this one by Villeneuve is more coherent, less cheap-looking and has better characterization overall. One caveat though is that the movie really only covers half the book. Its slow meditative nature may turn some off, but if you’re patient it is full of nuance and is exciting when it needs to be. The cinematography is exquisite.
Dune is such a classic book and a sci fi staple. I defiantly suggest reading the source material first. This is a wonderful movie. Like Denis previous works this is visually stunning!
