The Book of Clarence

Why the music? The dialog was not engaging and reminded me of an elementary student style. Cinematography lacked. I wanted to like this movie. Gave 30 minutes. Perhaps 1.5 stars?

Cinematography…lacked. Script…need better dialogue…music…why? Had so much potential. Wanted to like it. Got through 30 minutes.

This is two movies. The first half is horrendous (I only stayed cuz I was with the wife). The second half was actually decent.

I am Christian yet I still found it to be entertaining and humorous without being offended. Though a couple of scenes were a bit much for my taste, ... I still laughed and cried. I enjoy the imagination of the writers putting a twist in a story so familiar to many of us yet... humor and tragedy were walsing hand in hand. Clarence, simply put, is portrayed as the new con artist in town as he tries to survive, to be accepted, to be loved, and to make a name for himself. It is not for everyone, but the costumes, set, story, sound, and cast were good for me. We need more black-cast movies to reflect and validate our existence through our voices and our lenses, in this white-governed world. We have been invisible way too long. So thank you!

TOO BAD!! This COULD'VE been a Good movie. But the dumass hip-hoppy soundtrack, in a movie abt ancient civilizations and Jesus just KILLED it for me, when it Could've been a really interesting extra Element to ADD to the originality of the whole thing. Maybe something that took elements from the music and sounds of the Area and the historic Times in which it took place. But instead they took the Easy way out and messed up a great premise, imo. But that's ME. Disappointing.

I did have high hopes , pun not intendant, dull , dull , no emotional investment with the characters, not being religious , was not put off with blunt smoking Jesus , lazy , so only black people are jews, but no black people playing romans? It was pretty bad with no , laughs the Tracy Morgan look a like side kick was borderline , insulting , Spike Lee coined an expression , not mine , but appropriate coonery , look it up.

It’s a drama with comedy elements. Excellent recreation of the time period, costume design and characterization. Story, soundtrack and cast are top notch as well.
