National Theatre Live: Hedda Gabler

This is a searing interpretation of a classic 19th century work. It is all sharp angles and tension, a naturalistic and unleashed portrayal of a rather up-tight society, its nouveau bourgeois and aging aristocracy. The performances are riveting, and Hove's usual stripped down conception doesn't stop the exposures there. It is an unforgettable evening of theatre.
