it starts off kind of slow, but once you get into the feel of a tv soap-opera with the characters and plot, its all fun from there on. tim burton does not disappoint with his amazing use of effects and make-up, and as always, his devotion to johnny depp and helena bonham carter brings the level of enjoyment in this movie up to non-stop fun for anyone!

a lot of it just wasn't funny to me, and wasn't sure what the purpose was if i wasn't laughing.

i'm a devoted tim burton, johnny depp, and danny elfman fan, so this review is highly subjective. i've been waiting for this movie for a year, and i wasn't disappointed. it was a slightly slower pace than i expected, but i was fine with that. i'm also a little familiar with tv series it was based on, so that helped situate the characters and plot somewhat. the makeup, costumes, and cinematic shots were fabulous. i'll be buying this as soon as it comes out on dvd.

i always enjoy any movie with johnny depp in it because he's such a versatile actor.

i found it commical in a very dark manner, well done acting on all the actors and actresses involved in the film. it did remind me of the monsters television series from when i was younger. it was a pleasant surprise and i enjoyed it very much.

i really enjoyed this movie. it was quite comical with a bit of vampire horror thrown in. johnny depp is as usual excellent as were the other main characters. i'm thinking they left the door open for a part 2 which would be great as the original dark shadows was a soap opera and they'd have plenty to work with.

amusing and hilarious motion-picture! johnny depp is marvelous as usual, eva green is so hot and play very well as a witch character! love tim horton's movies!!! a must-buy collection!

this movie was good. there were many funny parts. unfortunately, i think i had way too high hopes. nothing can compare to "the nightmare before christmas", even though i'm always crossing my fingers that burton's next movie will.

anything with johnny depp is a must see. he portrayed the character well...a little slow in some parts and as usual all best the parts were showed in the trailers so didn't leave much in surprises

johnny depp was enough invitation to watch this movie. we overheard a girl at the concession counter, shocked that we were headed to see dark shadows, ask another worker if 'those seniors know what that movie is about.' i used to come home from school to watch barnabas on tv in the '60s!! light-hearted version, fun to watch and slightly 'spoofy' with effects borrowed from other movies. good entertainment.

i use to run home from school to watch the original dark shadows series. i was prepared for the quirkiness of tim burton and had no expectations of it being like the series, and it wasn't. burton uses the storyline of the original series thinly and the movie was fun, with great special effects.

loved every second of it! was glad they didn't turn this into a spoof like so many tv-to-film adaptations these days.

i absolutely love johnny depp and his performance was awesome but i expected a bit more from this movie. it was not as funny as hoped and the ending went completely off the rails.

considering it was a tim burton film, i had very high expectations, since i love his films. however, this movie did not do that for me. did have a couple of laughs though!

dark shadows is a great movie for the entire family! dark shadows has a great cast of characters! as always, depp shines!
